A friend emailed this to me today...
"One of the reasons we have to create evangelism programs is that no one is asking us questions such as, "What is the reason for the hope within you", "Why do you live so differently" or "Why do you love the poor, provide service widows and care for prisoners?" Our churches are so rooted in the Western story that would our neighbors think if we had Jesus removed from our life that our treasure would be removed? Or would they think it would be a small loss in relation to how we live seeking to pursue the American dream along with the rest of our unbelieving neighbors? In Acts and the early church evangelism was built on questions because of the radical alternative way Christians lived."
As I think about my life - I ask the question, why is it so hard to live radically? and then, why is it so easy to desire the life of the American dream?
Thoughts?

Re: A thought for the day...perhaps week
Wow, how convicting. It's so easy to desire the American dream because it's PLEASUREABLE. We want it all, the best in this life AND in the next. It's hard to live radically different becuase it doesn't look like much fun. And we want to give our kids the material things they want because we love them and want to make them "happy". Can any of us imagine telling our kids we're selling our possessions to give to the poor and are going to live a life of service to others? I don't know about anyone else but I bet mine would be calling 911 and reporting child abuse ;)

Thank God for CC and other Churches that have the courage to tell their attendees - look at the Bible, and this is what Jesus wants us to do. Quit sitting on your bottoms and get up and get moving (Read Exodus 14:15). Each one of us CAN make a difference and WILL make a difference to the Kingdom of God - only when we starting doing something. Take action. What are you waiting for. As for your kids, God has given them all they need and it is our own fault that they want to be filled with earthly pleasures. They are not going to die if they don't have the next latest and greatest toy. They will; however, die if they don't know about Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross and how He rose so that we may be saved. God Bless.
